Interac vs Other Casino Payment Methods

Interac is the default in Canadian casino cashiers for good reason, but it is not the only route and sometimes not the best one. We lined it up against nine alternatives on the four things that matter: fees, speed, whether you can withdraw, and how much the casino learns about you.

Interac vs Other Casino Payment Methods

The comparison below draws on what six casinos on our list actually accept in October 2026, plus our own deposits and withdrawals. Where a method is missing from every cashier we track, such as PayPal at offshore sites, we say so rather than guess. Reviewed and updated by Jake Foster on October 7, 2026.

For most Canadians, Interac stays the best all-round casino method. Sportuna is our pick if you also want e-wallets or Bitcoin, PlayOJO if you want Apple Pay with fast, wager-free cashouts.

Interac against every major casino payment method

Start here. One row per method, judged from a Canadian player's point of view at an offshore casino. Ontario-regulated sites differ in places, mainly around PayPal.

Two patterns jump out. Cards are everywhere but poor for getting money back. Wallets are good for privacy but each one adds an account to manage. Interac sits in the middle, which is exactly why most Canadians never move off it.

How we judged each method

Ratings in the table come from a mix of the casinos' own cashier data and our test deposits. Four questions shaped every row.

  1. Does the money land in under five minutes on a normal weekday evening?
  2. Can the same method carry a withdrawal back, or does the casino switch you to something else?
  3. What does it cost a typical Canadian account holder, counting bank, card issuer and provider fees, not just the casino's?
  4. How much personal or banking data ends up with the casino or its processor?

Speed of withdrawal is deliberately left out of the table, because at most of these sites the casino's own approval queue matters more than the payment rail. The by-casino table at the bottom of this page shows each operator's stated payout time instead.

Interac vs Visa and Mastercard at casinos

Searches for a Mastercard casino in Canada are common, and every site in our group takes Mastercard. Deposits are not the issue. The trouble starts with your card issuer and, later, with withdrawals.

The credit card block

Several large Canadian card issuers decline online gambling charges on credit cards outright, and others code them as cash advances. A cash advance usually means a fee on the spot and interest from the day of the transaction, with no grace period. We tried a 50 $ Visa deposit at Jackpot City using a big-bank credit card and it was declined; a debit Visa from a different bank went through. Your result depends entirely on your issuer, so check your cardholder agreement.

Getting money back

Most casinos cannot send winnings to a credit card. When you deposit by Visa or Mastercard, expect to be asked for a different withdrawal method, often Interac or a bank transfer. Winbay, which lists Visa, Mastercard and Bank transfer next to Interac, is a clear example of a cashier built around that split.

Interac vs Mastercard, then, is mostly a question of whether you want to deal with your issuer's rules. Interac vs Visa plays out the same way.

PayPal vs Interac for casino play

PayPal is the method readers ask about most and find least. None of the six casinos on this page lists it, and neither does any offshore brand in our wider database.

PayPal restricts gambling payments to operators licensed in markets it approves, and in Canada that effectively means some iGaming Ontario sites. If you live in Ontario, you may find PayPal at a regulated operator; check the cashier and our Ontario Interac casino list. Elsewhere in Canada, a site that claims PayPal while holding only an offshore licence deserves a second look.

Our advice

If PayPal is what you would use for its buyer-protection feel, Interac gives you the closest experience: bank-backed, no card on file, no extra fees on most plans.

Why some lists still show PayPal casinos

Comparison pages written for the UK or US often get copied into Canadian guides without anyone checking the cashier. We opened the banking pages of Sportuna, Jackpot City, Spin Casino, PlayOJO, BigClash and Winbay in October 2026: no PayPal at any of them. If PayPal vs Interac is a real choice for you, it will only be at a regulated operator, and in that case both are fine. Interac tends to win on withdrawal coverage, PayPal on how quickly money becomes usable elsewhere online.

E-wallets, Apple Pay and prepaid vouchers

This group covers everything that sits between your bank and the casino. Each one solves a specific problem. Few solve all of them.

Apple Pay

Jackpot City, Spin Casino and PlayOJO accept it. Deposits are quick and your card number stays tokenised. The card behind Apple Pay still decides whether the charge is allowed and how it is billed, so a credit card in your wallet can carry the same cash advance problem as above. PlayOJO is our pick here thanks to wager-free bonuses and withdrawals that are mostly processed within minutes to 24 hours.

MuchBetter, Skrill and Neteller

  • MuchBetter: app-based wallet, listed at Jackpot City and PlayOJO. Good for players who like approving payments on their phone.
  • Skrill and Neteller: listed at Sportuna and BigClash. Handy if you already hold a balance, but watch currency conversion charges when the wallet is not in CAD.
  • Bonus exclusions: many operators exclude Skrill and Neteller deposits from welcome offers. Read the terms before using them for a first deposit.

iDebit and Instadebit

These are the Canadian bank-linked options. Spin Casino lists iDebit among our six; Instadebit is not in any of these cashiers. We cover both in depth on the iDebit page and the Instadebit page.

Paysafecard and other vouchers

Paysafecard (Jackpot City, Spin, PlayOJO), NeoSurf and Cash2Code (BigClash) let you pay with a code bought for cash. Great for keeping a strict budget. Useless for withdrawals, though, so you will need Interac or another route when you win.

Interac vs crypto casinos

Bitcoin appears in the Sportuna cashier, and BigClash notes that its crypto deposits carry higher minimums than Interac. Here is how the two compare in practice.

Withdrawal speedSame day to a few days after approvalFast on-chain, then exchange to bank adds days

Crypto suits players already comfortable with exchanges and wallets. For everyone else, the round trip through an exchange erases any speed gain. Crypto casino use is also not anonymous: Canadian exchanges verify identity, and the CRA can request records.

When crypto beats Interac

Two cases, in our view. One: your bank blocks gambling transactions and you already hold Bitcoin on an exchange. Two: you deposit above your bank's daily e-Transfer cap and do not want to wait. For a 50 $ or 100 $ session, the exchange spread and network fee can eat a noticeable slice of the deposit, and Interac is simply cheaper. Sportuna is the only one of our six with Bitcoin in the cashier, and it pays Interac withdrawals in 24-72 hours anyway, so most of its players have little reason to switch.

What our six featured casinos accept

Use this to pick a site by the method you already have. All six take Interac; BigClash is deposit-only for it.

A word on licences: Jackpot City and Spin Casino are run by Baytree Interactive under Kahnawake licence 01059, and PlayOJO by SkillOnNet under the Malta Gaming Authority, with an iGaming Ontario licence for Ontario players. Licence and operator details for Sportuna, BigClash and Winbay are not on our file, so check the offshore licence shown in each footer.

Whatever method you choose, set a deposit limit before your first payment and stop if play stops being fun. Online casinos are 19+ in most provinces, 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec. If speed is the deciding factor, our fast payout rankings go site by site.

Interac vs Other Casino Payment Methods: FAQ

Is PayPal or Interac better for online casinos in Canada?

Interac, for most players, simply because it is available. None of the offshore casinos we track accepts PayPal, which limits gambling payments to approved licensed markets. Some iGaming Ontario operators do offer PayPal, so Ontario residents have that choice; everyone else will find Interac the closest equivalent.

Can I use a Mastercard at a Canadian online casino?

All six casinos on this page accept Mastercard deposits. Whether yours goes through depends on your issuer: several Canadian banks block gambling on credit cards or bill it as a cash advance with immediate interest. Debit Mastercards tend to work more often. Withdrawals to credit cards are rarely possible.

Interac vs Visa: which is better for casino deposits?

Interac. It is usually free, avoids cash advance charges, does not leave your card number with the casino, and can be used for withdrawals. Visa is a reasonable backup when your bank's e-Transfer limit is reached, ideally as a debit card.

Is crypto faster than Interac for casino withdrawals?

The blockchain transfer itself can be quick, but converting back to CAD on an exchange and moving it to your bank adds days and fees. Overall, Interac is often just as fast and much simpler. Crypto makes most sense if you plan to keep your winnings in crypto.

Which payment method keeps my bank details away from the casino?

iDebit, Instadebit, MuchBetter, Skrill, Neteller and Paysafecard all keep your bank account and card numbers out of the casino's hands. Apple Pay tokenises your card. Interac shares less than a card but the casino's processor still sees your name, email and bank.

Do casinos charge fees for Interac compared with other methods?

The casinos we review do not charge for Interac. Fees on other methods usually come from the provider: cash advance fees on credit cards, conversion fees on e-wallets, retailer charges on some vouchers, and network or exchange fees on crypto.

What can I use if my bank blocks Interac payments to casinos?

iDebit is the most direct substitute where offered, since it works through online banking. MuchBetter, Skrill or a debit card are other options, depending on the casino. Do not try to get around a block you placed on yourself for responsible gambling reasons.
